ROOT CANAL IN SULLIVAN COUNTY, CATSKILL MOUNTAINS UPSTATE NEW YORK
When the nerve in a tooth becomes infected due to trauma, decay, fracture or old restoration the tooth may need a Root Canal Therapy or endodontic treatment. During this treatment the infected nerve or pulpal tissue is disinfected and sterilized. When the cleaning and shaping phase is over, a filling material is placed through the root canal of the tooth sealing out the bacteria.
Root Canal treatment can be completed in one to two appointments depending on the status of the roots and is usually a painless procedure. A temporary filling is placed between appointments and the placement of the subsequent final restorations which can include either a filling, a post and a ceramic crown if needed to protect the root and tooth. Root canals can also be needed if not enough of the natural tooth structure remains to repair the tooth and the root must be accessed to support the crown of the tooth.
